DESCRIPTION: FIRST EDITION WITH THE DUST JACKET. 1 vol., illustrated by Henry Holiday. Bound in the publisher's black stamped tan cloth, all edges gilt. head and foot of spine fine, inner hinges fine, VERY GOOD+, with original dust jacket.
CONDITION: Lacking lower 1/3 of the DJ spine containing the word "The" and a 1/4" at the head of the spine, center 1/3 of DJ spine present but detached, DJ flaps firmly connected to the covers, covers still connected by the upper 1/3 of spine, some slight rumpling along the upper and lower edges of the DJ, upper right corner of the front of the DJ with a contemporary neat ownership inscription of "O J Perkins, April 4th, 1876.", still clean and bright, better then it may sound, still considered GOOD.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The DJ is notoriously scarce. The last copy we can find that sold at auction was at Forum in 2017. The spine was complete but the entire top edge of the jacket was trimmed making it a bit short at the top. It sold for £8,125 or approximately $10,480.
