DESCRIPTION: FIRST EDITION. 1 vol., 7-3/8" x 5-3/4", (xxxvi)376pp., complete with the engraved frontis of Merlin, expertly inlaid, slight loss to a few letters in lower left corner, internally clean and bright throughout. Bound in full tan polished calf, ribbed gilt decorated spine, neatly rebacked retaining the original spine labels, covers double ruled in gilt, gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, by Pratt, elaborate gilt decorated leather bookplate to front pastedown. A nice copy.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Heywood was an actor, playwright, and author of prose works. This work chronicled all the kings of England dating back to the legendary king Brutus, who had come from Troy to start an exploration and a new colony, up to Charles I who was the King when Heywood died. The book goes on to chronicle certain prophesies told by Merlin and the interpretations of each and explanation of each within the context of the modern world.
