DESCRIPTION: FIRST EDITION, SECOND STATE. 1 volume, 7-1/4" x 4-7/8", second state with "Lo" for "Long" in the first line of page 61 & 4 page publisher's catalogue dated "October 1, 1847".  Bound in full green morocco, front and back covers with central four-pointed gilt device of hearts and tulips with gilt stamped red & blue onlays surrounded by elaborate leaf & vine scroll-work bordered by gilt red lozenges within triple gilt-fillet rules, spine similarly decorated in 6 compartments with gilt titles in 2, wide gilt turn-ins, gilt dentelles, russet silk endpapers and doublures, housed in a green cloth open-ended slipcase, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe.
