TITLE: Mr. Winthrop and his Tenniels

PUBLISHER: NJ: D&D Galleries, 2022.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: On Jan. 1, 2021, six sketches by John Tenniel for Lewis Carroll's two Alice books - sketches thought to be lost forever - suddenly appeared for sale.  They were the first sketches for the books to have a public auction in over twenty years.

They were once owned by Bronson Winthrop, a tall, handsome confirmed bachelor with "impeccable" manners.  By vocation, he was a lawyer, by birth, a member of an elite New York family in the early twentieth century.  "Uncle Mr. Winthrop and his Tenniels" recounts the curious tale of the six drawings and the other Tenniel drawings for Alice in his extensive collection.  The book is a valuable addition to the ongoing research Matthew Demakos is conducting on John Tenniel and his Alice drawings.
