There exists a popular studio photo of Trollope take by Herbert. In a letter to Herbert dated April 13,1860 Trollpe writes "I think the portrait now as it stands will do very well. It looks un-common feirce (sic), as that of a dog about to bite; but that I fear is the nature of the animal portrayed".
