DESCRIPTION: FIRST EDITION. 1 vol., 6-9/16" x 3-15/16, (vi)210pp.(ii), with the half-title, bound in contemporary full speckled tan French calf over cords, gilt decorated spine, gilt lettered red morocco spine label.

CONDITION: Front hinge starting but firm, head and foot of spine fine, internally clean and bright, overall a VERY GOOD copy.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The text was published anonymously in 1712 although reissued in 1713. Abbe de Choisy transformed the original work into a narrative centered on rustic gallantry and romantic intrigues, in order to adapt it to the tastes of the 18th century.

RBH records only one 1713 edition of this title ever appearing at auction.
