CONDITION: Inner and outer hinges fine, head and foot of spine fine, internally clean and bright, paper bookplate to front pastedown, overall VERY GOOD+, housed in a beautiful elaborately blind tooled and fitted black calf clamshell box with a gilt lettered spine.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Bound Single Issue of Historic Gazette Printed in March, 1775 During The Reign of Louis XVI, Very Rare. "Mercure De France" was a French literary magazine and gazette published as Mercure Galant and Nouveau Mercure Galant 1677-1774. The two publications were primarily for the elite and had essays, poems and societal and political publications. This issue contains an announcement of the premier of Pierre Beaumarchais's comedy “Le Barbier de Seville” (p.160), a chapter on “Healthy Chocolate - considering that the consumption of chocolate is becoming commonplace” (p.218), and (p.94-109) “This new volume, containing the history of America, was all the more eagerly awaited because the historian of Asia, Africa, and America....”.
