DESCRIPTION: FIRST TRADE EDITION. 1 vol., small folio, 12-1/2" x 9-1/4", illustrated in B&W and 20 tipped in color plates by Willy Pogany, decorated borders to each text page. Bound in fine full olive green morocco, ribbed gilt decorated spine, spine panels with gilt tooled blue morocco onlays, rear cover ruled and paneled in gilt, front cover with gilt tooled multi color morocco onlays depicting the Ancient Mariner holding a spear to the sky, a moon and bird are reproduced in a silk cloth to the upper front cover, gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, by Bumpus, engraved bookplate of Annie Cowdray, housed in a slightly worn fleece lined 1/4 brown morocco clamshell box, with a gilt lettered spine.

CONDITION: Inner and outer hinges fine, head and foot of spine fine, some offsetting to the edges of the endpapers from the doublures otherwise IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Annie Pearson (nee Cass), Viscountess Cowdray (1862-1932), High Steward of Colchester and wife of 1st Viscount Cowdray (Sir Weetman (Baron) Pearson) who made his money in Railways and oil. The bookplate features a view of Dunecht House (Aberdeenshire, Scotland). The house boasts 24 bedrooms, a ballroom, 16 bathrooms and its own private chapel and was recently sold in 2012 and is still used as a private home today.
