DESCRIPTION: GEORGE II's PRAYER BOOK FROM THE ROYAL CHAPEL. 1 vol., 16" x 10-1/2", folio in 4's unpaginated, engraved frontis, complete, text ruled in red, bound in contemporary full black morocco over cords, covers ruled and with full gilt borders, in the middle of each cover are the Arms of George II, and on the front cover only the words "St. James's Chapel, 1749,", spine panels with royal crowned monogram repeated seven times, all edges gilt, marbled pastedowns and endpapers.
CONDITION: Lacking the original silk ties, hinges fine, head and foot of spine fine, internally clean and bright, A VERY GOOD COPY WITH A WONDERFUL ASSOCIATION/HISTORY.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Highly likely the same copy that appeared in Maggs Catalogue 650 (May 1937) that was issued to commemorate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth as they note "St. James's Chapel, 1749" gilt above the crest. It’s also interesting to note that Maggs had listed it for £10.50 and RBH records it being sold at Sotheby’s in 1936 for £4.05.
We have located 2 other folio Book of Common Prayer with the crest of George II. Both are later editions and neither have "St. James's Chapel, 1749" gilt above the crest.
