DESCRIPTION: PRESENTATION COPY. 1 vol., 7-1/2" x 5-3/8", inscribed on the half-title "John Parry / with the Author's kind regards.", illustrations by John Tenniel. Bound in the publisher's original gilt stamped red cloth, "Burn" binder ticket to rear pastedown, all edges gilt, with an advertisement slip for "Phantasmagoria" tipped to the front endpaper.
CONDITION: Internally clean and bright, spine neatly relined, original spine laid down, general handling, overall still a VERY GOOD copy.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An interesting presentation copy as nearly all presentation copies are to little girls. The recipient was the illustrator John Orlando Parry. Parry had issued some illustrated limericks much in the manner of Lear, of which Dodgson would likely have approved, and his comic works were well regarded at the time. There exists a photograph of Parry taken by Dodgson.
