AUTHOR: DODGSON, Charles Lutwidge: (Lewis Carroll).
TITLE: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. London: Macmillan and Co., 1908.
DESCRIPTION: PRESENTATION COPY. 1 vol., 7-5/8" x 5-1/8", inscribed on the half-title "Eva from Alice Pleasance Hargreaves January 1910", illustrations by John Tenniel. Bound in full blue calf, raised bands, gilt lettered spine, gilt dentelles, all edges gilt.
DESCRIPTION: Internally clean and bright, spine and covers unevenly sunned, front upper hinge just starting but cover firmly attached, overall still a VERY GOOD copy.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Acquired directly by decent of the family. Eva Mulholland (1884-1972) was the only daughter of Lord Dunleath, of Ballywater Park. Though tangential but none the less interesting Eva notes in her diary “My mother’s grandfather was Lord George Hill (Downshire) and my grandmother’s great-aunt was Jane Austen.”
This was a gift from Alice to Eva for her wedding in January of 1910. Extremely rare to find presentation copies Wonderland inscribed by Alice.
