DESCRIPTION: MIXED FIRST AND SECOND EDITION. 3 vols, 7-5/8" x 5", volume 1 & 3 are second edition and volume 2 is a first edition. expertly rebacked to style in 1/2 tan calf, raised bands, gilt lettered black morocco spine labels, matching marbled pastedowns, endpapers, edges.

CONDITION: Internally clean and bright, without the half-titles, though a mixed edition a VERY GOOD set.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The second edition, printed the same year as the first, is identical in every way with the exception of "Second Edition" added to the title-page. In this case we can only assume that there were remainder title-page leaves of the first edition printing and sets were indiscriminately bound up (issued) with mixed 1st & 2nd edition volumes.

An interesting ownership inscription in Dutch to the front blank endpaper dated 14 March 1925 and initialed (U.T.?) which reads:
"The Study sits enthroned upon the boat / In days of May / Lest sorrow come to plague one later / That the Study may bear its strength aloft."
