CONDITION: Contemporary ownership signature in pencil dated 1886 to front blank endleaf, Inner and outer hinges fine, head and foot of spine fine, some rubbing to back corners with some minor loss, otherwise a bright copy often found in somewhat sad condition.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Prince and the Pauper, set in 1537, was the first of Clemens's historical novels and was inspired by Charlotte Yonge's Little Duke (1854), which Clemens found in his sister-in-law's library at Quarry Farm.
