DESCRIPTION: FIRST EDITION WITH THE GILT ARMS OF LOUIS XIV's DAUGHTER. 1 vol., 6-5/8" x 4", bound in contemporary full red French morocco over cords, gilt decorated spine, covers ruled in gilt, gilt corner pieces, gilt crest to both covers of Louise-Françoise de Bourbon (1673-1743), gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, Leather bookplate of Cortland Bishop to the front endleaf.
CONDITION: Front hinge starting but firm, head and foot of spine fine, internally clean and bright.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The gilt arms of Princess Louise-Françoise de Bourbon was Louis XIV and the Marquise de Montespan's daughter. The Mademoiselle de Nantes, as she was known, had a magnificent collection of books and artworks at her Paris residence, the Palais Bourbon. Her library was particularly renowned for the quality of its bindings, many of which were executed by Derome and Padeloup. (Olivier, Reliures Armoriees, pl. 2628).
